"Scholarships Anyone Can Win"

Here is a list of scholarships that almost anyone can win. There are very few restrictions - you don't have to be a "son of a forth generation firefighter whose grandfather was also a veteran in the First World War." Be sure to contact each group directly for an application.

Educational Communications Scholarship

Eligibility: High school sophomore, junior, or senior. US citizen.
Details: Based on GPA, test scores, leadership experience, work experience, and financial need. Must submit essay and transcript. Send SASE for application.
Award: $1,000 average.
Number of awards: 150.
Deadline: Mid-March to request application. Beginning of June for scholarship.
Award year: Freshman.

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Award
Contact local Elks for state association address or 2750 North Lakeview Avenue, Chicago, IL 60614-1889 - 312.477.2750 -
Eligibility: High school senior. College students are not eligible. US citizen. Need not be member of Elks.
Details: Based on leadership experience, academic achievement, and financial need.
Award: $1,000 - $5,000.
Number of awards: 500 maximum.
Deadline: Mid-November applications are available only through local lodges. Mid-January scholarship deadline.
Award year: Freshman.

Executive Women International

Eligibility: High school junior (male or female).
Details: Based on academic achievement, leadership experience, and work experience. Write to address above and send SASE for application.
Award: $100 - $10,000.
Number of awards: 6.

Harrah's Casino Hotel Project 21 Scholarship

Details: Must submit poster that was displayed in school or essay published in school newspaper on the topic of underage gambling.
Award: $1,000.
Number of awards: 5 poster winners, 5 essay winners.
Deadline: End of June.

Details: Based on two-page, typewritten essay on conserving energy in the home.

National Peace Essay Contest
